2013 Schedule

Fish and Fishing
June 8, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

A North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources series held at various historic sites and museums across the state. Events highlight history, heritage, arts and fun. June 8 – Fish and Fishing, July 13 – Beachcombers Fest, August 10 – Ahoy, Pirates! Events are free.

Beachcombers Fest
July 13, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m

Some of the coolest things wash ashore on North Carolina beaches, including shells, sea beans and even some really strange stuff! We’ll have a variety of things we’ve found on the beach on display, including 101 North Carolina shells, fossils and the largest find in our collection – the skeleton of a 33.5-foot sperm whale that washed ashore at Cape Lookout in 2004. There will be crafts and make-and-take activities for children and lots of fun for all ages.

Ahoy, Pirates!
August 10, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Coinciding with the annual Beaufort Pirate Invasion, the Museum prepares for a scourge of scurvy dogs and the pirates that accompany them. Children can get their own pirate tattoos, hats and prizes with a number of pirate-themed games. Take part in a scavenger hunt to identify the rapscallions around town and collect your own booty as a reward. Bring your children to our annual luncheon where they can dine alongside pirates and hear a few sea stories of life on the high seas.
