Buccaneers Abound at Beaufort 2nd Saturdays Event
Dress in your best pirate garb and head to the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort on Saturday, Aug. 13, for 2nd Saturdays: “Ahoy, Pirates!” in conjunction with the annual Beaufort Pirate Invasion.
The Museum offers free pirate revelry for all ages from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., artists and activities include:
• Scavenger hunt – find the clues and get an official “Pirate License”
• Learn how to walk and talk like a buccaneer – “Pirate Lessons”
• Boating safety with the U.S. Coast Guard • Pirate weapons demonstrations – 10 a.m. & 2 p.m.
• “Dare to Listen!: Stories of Piracy” by Capt. Tim Dillinger
• “Lunch with Pirates” – noon, advance registration required
• Display on the Museum’s sperm whale project “Bonehenge”
• Sculptor and photographer Michael Noles
• Irish/Celtic jewelry, books and clothing by The Irish Pirate, http://www.theirishpiratetradingco.com/
"The Museum is proud to take part in the annual Beaufort Pirate Invasion - a phenomenal, one-of-a-kind event,” said N.C. Maritime Museums Director Joseph Schwarzer. “Visitors of all ages can take part in the fun while also learning about the history of piracy in North Carolina through the Museum's newest exhibit, 'Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge.'"

Sponsored by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, 2nd Saturdays takes place at 37 State Historic Sites and museums on the second Saturday of the summer months.
